Vogue, in its own way, honored the dedicated service of first responders during Hurricane Sandy with a fashion editorial shot by Annie Leibovitz.  The images have received mixed reviews from the publication’s Facebook fans but overall, more people are liking them than loathing.  Titled “New York’s other finest,” the shoot features images of models Chanel Iman, Karlie Kloss and Arizona Muse dressed in high fashion in action poses with firefighters, Con Edison employees, National Guardsmen and doctors and nurses.

Some critics are slamming the images as ‘poor taste’ and ‘idiotic,” because because the first responders are used us props instead of the subject of the images.  The Fashion Spot called it “inappropriate and idiotic,” and New York Magazine said, “Bravo to Vogue for raising all that Sandy relief money; maybe they should’ve left it at that…This story still feels wrong at a time when Sandy’s aftermath continues to be felt.’

The editorial, titled ‘Storm Troopers,’ is in the February issue of Vogue magazine featuring actress Rooney Mara on the cover.

Editor’s note: In collaboration with the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), the publication has raised more than $1.7m through fundraising initiatives.
