The Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala honoring the late Alexander McQueen is thing evening. The Museum’s press office invited us to preview the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit this morning. The well curated exhibit pays reverent tribute to a true genius way ahead of his time. Here is a video from the Holographic exhibit featuring the ivory silk organza and tulle dresses from the Widows of Culloden, Autumn/Winter 2006-7 collection.

A few lovely quotes from the exhibit.
“There is no way back for me now. I am going to take you on journeys you’ve
never dreamed were possible.”

“What pleased me most about this collection was the effect the hologram of Kate
Moss had on people. The surprise of it … I liked the spontaneity of it.”

“The original idea was to do the whole show as a hologram. But the collection
would have to be made so far in advance to be ready to film.”

Another video from the Cabinet of Curiosities gallery featuring ornate headpieces from Philip Treacy, Sarah Harmarnee, neck pieces by Erik Halley and shoulder pieces from Shaun Leane, all for Alexander McQueen’s collections.
