Fashion is going to new heights this season with the continuation of the platform shoe trend. That’s right! What’s old is new again and platforms have joined the ranks of Y2K fashion as the leading trend for 2022. This fall and holiday season is no exception because platform shoes are back and higher than ever. The ever-popular Bratz-looking Versace Aevitas Platform Sandals and Valentino Tan-go from last season have gotten new color iterations with the latter getting a pointier toe box and becoming more vertiginous.

I’ve been holding on to several platform shoes of all heights for the past few years and I often wear them with my maxi dresses or with dressier outfits that require long hours on my feet. This season’s trend has something for everyone. The good ole Mary Jane shoe has gotten sexier and in Barbiecore colors of Fuschia, electric yellows other bright hues as seen on the Valentino and Versace runways. The preppy and tomboys can find this trend in brogues like these from Louis Vuitton, monolith brogues by Prada and a similar pair by Gucci, the cult classic Elyse by Stella McCartney, and its dupe from Steve Madden. For a more comfortable athleisure style, these chunky Alexander McQueen lace-ups or the more affordable Converse Run Star hightops will do the trick. Check out the wide array of platform shoe styles on ASOS if you want to try this trend without breaking the bank.

I reach for platform sandals when I wear tea-length and maxi dresses.  I am 5’4′ so I like to be as tall as possible without sacrificing comfort. I own one too many pairs but I do have some favorites. The oldest pair I currently have in my closet is a black and gold suede Schutz platform sandals I purchased at a sample sale over seven years ago. I also own these Michael Kors Paloma platform sandals in both brown and black. The gold heel is such a statement.

These lavender Schutz sandals are my latest addition. I have them in three colors – lavender, lime, and black – and they are oh-so-comfortable.  They are dupes of the Valentino Tan-go platforms, which I was on the fence about. I didn’t want to spend over $1100 on a pair of shoes I wouldn’t wear often but I finally caved and got the black Valentino pumps because I know I will get ample use out of them.

I also own these Louis Vuitton Oh Really peep-toe pumps from 2014. I fell in love after seeing Beyonce wear them for her Life is But a Dream documentary red carpet appearance.  I own these in burgundy as well and wear them often with gowns for added height. These babies are roughly six inches high but they are also comfortable. You can find these at luxury consignment shops as well a Poshmark for a steal.

I added the Giuseppe Zanotti Bebe platform shoes to my shoe closet last fall after seeing one of our wedding guests rocking them. The crystal-embellished heel and platform make them statement shoes and look incredible with midi and knee-length looks. Shop some of my favorite platform trends below.
