In fashion, as the saying goes, what’s old can always be new again—case in point, the Y2K trend that blazed through social media like wildfire last year. I’m a firm believer in buying things one truly loves in order to make them work over and over again. If I’m going to spend my hard-earned money on something, it’s got to be something I plan on cherishing for years to come. That’s why I’ve focused so much of my mid to late 20s and early 30s on buying closet staples that will transcend trends. This sweater set caught my eye on the H&M website back in the fall of 2019 and I immediately added it to my cart because of the eye-catching print and the grey-and-white color combo. It was definitely a keeper back then and it sure is now.

The sweater is a classic that gets remade, remodeled, and reimagined each season. I own one too many so I’ve stopped buying them altogether. After all, how many black sweaters does one need? Albeit variations in cut and weight may vary, we don’t need but two or three. This tiger-printed sweater was like nothing I owned in my closet when I purchased it three years ago.  But I knew I would get tons of wear out of it. Since adding to my wardrobe, I have styled the top and bottom in countless ways and also worn them together with different accessories to create a contemporary outfit.

The weather in New York has been unseasonably warm since Christmas and we’ve been able to get away with light jackets or heavier sweaters. This sweater set is so warm.  So much so that I wore it for our weekly date night last night without a jacket. I restyled it with different accessories to breathe new life into the look. I’m a huge advocate for shopping your closet before buying anything new. It’s not only cost-effective, but it’s also sustainable and environmentally friendly. Also with space being such a big luxury in New York City, I always analyze and evaluate my purchases to make sure I have room in our apartment to accommodate them.

I restyled this sweater skirt set (last seen on social here) with cap-toe pumps from Saks Fifth Avenue and my new statement bag from Amazon. The bag is a dupe of the Jimmy Choo Bon Bon, which retails for a whopping $4,695. I have linked a few sweater sets below just in case you missed out on this sweater set when it first came out.
