I’ve been on the fence about getting on the combat boots trend for a few seasons because I wasn’t really sure they would suit my style. I tried the Prada Lug Sole Chunky Leather boots last year. You know, the ones with the small Prada pochette around the ankles? I liked them but didn’t love them. I also couldn’t find a lot of ways to wear them with my current wardrobe hence there was no justification for keeping them. So I sent them back to Saks Fifth Avenue.

I was still in search of the right combat boot to fit my vibe and wasn’t giving up. Enter Louis Vuitton and Grace Coddington. Yes THE Grace Coddington of VOGUE. She partnered with Louis Vuitton artistic direct Artistic Director Nicolas Ghesquière on a capsule collection featuring playful illustrations of cats and dogs on the iconic LV canvas.

I had been eyeing the Star Trail Boots and the Laureate Desert Boots from Louis Vuitton since they were released but didn’t want a basic pair. When I saw Grace’s quirky illustrations on these two boots, I couldn’t resist finally snagging a pair. I wanted something comfortable yet chic and fun; a boot I’d wear often. With a hefty $1300 price tag, I needed to make sure they’d get used often. Price per wear people! I settled on the Laureate Desert Boots and have not regretted that decision.

Since getting these boots, I’ve worn them with almost everything in my closet, except for my tulle skirts and fancy gowns (I still haven’t given up). They are so versatile. The look good with leggings and an oversized sweatshirt, jeans and a puff sleeve tee, an above the knee baby-doll dress (how I’ve been wearing them lately) and even midi skirts. I also love that I will be able to wear them in the snow when we return to New York.

You’re probably thinking, “I could NEVER wear combat boots. They’re just not my style.” WROOOOOONG! You just have to find the right pair for you. Think of it as kissing a lot of frogs to find your prince or princess charming. I chose above the ankle combat boots that hit right at the base of my calf so I could wear midi skirts and dresses without exposing my ankles.

I hate that tiny bit of skin showing, which cuts me off and makes me look shorter. My combat boots elongate my 5’4” frame and make me look taller. Opt for shorter combat boots if you plan on wearing them more with jeans end the taller boot styles if you’re into dresses and midi skirts.

Now let’s talk price! You do not need to spend $1300 on the combat boots trend. Thanks to designers like Sam Edelman, Schutz, Stuart Weitzman, Doc Marten and Boohoo, you can get a pair to suits your style without breaking the bank. Below are some of my favorites in all price points for your consideration. Are you ready for the trend?
