India has always been a gold mine for designers looking for inspiration and exotic fabrics and gems for their collections.  For too long, designers hailing from India could not showcase their collections to the Western world.  With the advent of social media, the walls are quickly tumbling down, enabling them to showcase their collections to captivated audiences via Facbook, YouTube, Twitter and a slew of other mediums.  Glamour magazine reported that India is the next mecca for fashion. I don’t doubt that in the least bit.  Indian culture is a source of inspiration for design and arts so it’s only logical that strong talented designers that parallel those of established Western designers are making a mark on fashion.
I have had a few Indian designers on my radar for a few months, always coveting their clothes.  Raakesh Agarvwal is one to watch.  This designer is a favorite of Indian celebrities, including Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor and Bollywood sensation Lara Dutta. The designer is best known for diamond detailing and intricately embroidered handwork on cocktail dresses, sarees and couture gowns.  He showcased his fall collection last month at the Pearls Infrastructure Delhi Couture Week 2010 in New Delhi.  His collection featured modern renditions of the traditional Indian saree as well as draped gowns, crystal jewels adorning suits and dresses as well as cocktail dresses with intricate beadwork.
