What to Wear on Memorial Day
Eloquii Culottes / Target Top / Mark & Graham Bag / Nine West Pumps

When I think of Spring, especially post Memorial Day, two things come to mind: white and stripes.  Stripes of all kinds just seem to pop so much more against a spring background and I for one take every advantage to incorporate the trend into a majority of my looks when the weather warms up.  Stripes are preppy chic and part of the nautical aesthetic.  When Memorial Day comes around, I whip out all my white gear because I can FINALLY wear the color proudly.  I blame my Southern upbringing for my reluctance to wear white after labor day.

I’ve had sailor pants on my radar for a few years but never found anything that flattered my figure.  I became obsessed after seeing Kate Middleton’s Alexander McQueen ensemble with gold buttons emblazoning the front of her midi navy skirt.  I love the look of a preppy, cropped pant and instantly fell in love with these Wide Leg Button Culottes from Eloquii (also comes in navy). The fit of the pants is perfect and looks impeccably tailored.  I had to pair them with a striped top (A New Day by Target) because well, it’s spring and the perfect nautical look for my recent trip to Miami. All I needed was a yacht!

The other must have item for spring is something white.  Even though New Yorkers are known for adhering to an all black dress code, we boldly rock white come spring and summer.  White is risky to wear because it can get dirty easily but it’s so ethereal.  I buy white accessories because I always ruin white shirts and dresses with my makeup or some type of food spill.  I’ve been salivating over white pumps for a while and finally pulled the trigger on the Tatiana pumps from Nine West.  They are comfortable and go with so many things in my closet.  I’m probably going to repeat this outfit several times this spring/summer. I’ve already worn my Mark & Graham Circle Rattan bag several times as seen here and here.
