Are you ready for pumpkin spice latte season? I’m not really a fan of the sugary drink. I prefer my coffee strong with little sugar thank you very much. After a long month in France last month, I came back ready to kick start fall with a closet overhaul. I grabbed a few things from some of my favorite boutiques during the Labor Day sale frenzy. This silk skirt was 60% off at NastyGal so I couldn’t pass it up. The skirt is still available for $24 and in sizes 0 to 18.

Silk skirts are such a great transitional piece when paired with a turtleneck or a chunky cable knit sweater. The weather in New York has been temperate with warm afternoons and chillier evenings so I’ve started wearing some of my light sweaters, including this cream number from Louis Vuitton. I’m trying to be better at restyling looks so that you can also get some inspiration on how to re-wear old favorites. Everything I’m wearing, except for the skirt, is from last fall/winter so I am linking similar items below.

Don’t be intimidated by a slinky silk skirt if you are plus size or have curves. Be proud to show it off, ladies. My general tip for how to style a slip skirt or any skin-tight clothing is to go up one size so the fabric moves a bit more. If the waist is too big, just take the item to your local tailor to get it altered. Add a body smoother/slimmer like Spanx or Skims, Kim Kardashian’s new line of shapewear to smooth out any bumps since silk/satin materials show everything.

You can wear a silk skirt with a belted blazer and knee-high boots when the weather gets a bit colder. Add fun hosiery tights and booties or pumps for a bolder look.
