H&M opened its brand new location in Washington, D.C., at Union Station on Thursday, September 20th. This is the 281st U.S. store for the fashion giant, which has over 2,900 stores worldwide. This H&M is unlike any of the other the stores, because it boasts a boutique-like feel, nestled in the bustling Union Station bus, train and metro terminal.

Prior to opening its doors at noon, H&M held a press breakfast where we were able to chat with one of their marketing personal, Nicole Christie (buyer for NBC’s The Fashion Star). Nicole explained to me how excited H&M is to open this unique store, which only has Women and Men clothing, excluding the usual children and intimate wear that most other H&M stored have.

“This store is more intimate and designed for the traveler, who just wants to pop in, grab something quickly and then get on the train home,” said Nicole.

She also told me that the company would like to see how well this store does to determine whether they’d like to continue in this direction of “boutique type ” H&M stores.  On opening day, the first 300 shoppers were gifted fabulous H&M goodies, gift cards that could be valued any where from $10 to $300 and deals like buy one get one on all jewelry.

Before leaving the store, I had to take advantage of the special savings and I ended up buying an awesome blazer, hat and jewelry pieces.  To grab some great pieces of your own you can find the new H&M at 50 Massachusetts Ave NE Washington DC ( on the main level of Union Station).
