Does Donna Karan ever go wrong with her collections? Ever? No! She can do no wrong in my eyes. Her spring collection hit on the tribal trend, one I am very fond of. The designer has a special place in her heart for Haiti and has been frequenting there to help rebuild. Her spring 2012 collection is a marriage of Haitian ethnic culture and the New York cool aesthetic.
The prints on her skirts and dresses were work of the Haitian artist Philippe Dodar. The standout pieces included full skirts with mask faces styled with a cropped bra top; a black strapless gown with brown and white color blocking on the bust and a dramatic ruffled bottom; a clingy lime green frock with Donna’s signature draping to accentuate all the right curves. Asymmetrical shaped wooden bangles, a multi-layered wood and glass necklaces as well as flat-form sandals were the perfect compliment to the collection.
