New York City is saturated with restaurants. There is something for everyone no matter your taste, level of sophistication or budget. I live in the Chelsea neighborhood, which is chock-ful of Thai restaurants, gay bars, bakeries, Italian, Chinese, pizzarias galore and countless bodegas to count. Deciding where to go with the girls can become an ordeal but we normally manage to snag a seat at a not so hidden gem. Two weeks ago, two of my girlfriends and I ventured into Regional Thai on 7th Avenue (208 7th Avenue, New York), also known as Fashion Avenue, in Chelsea for cheap eats. It was that time of the month, in between paychecks, when caviar dreams whittle into beer budgets.
For starters, the place was not crowded. We were able to snag a seat outside for people watching. What caught our eye immediately was the $6.95 entree with two appetizers, a price all the girls could sing their teeth into. The menu is not very extensive but what it did have was plenty enough to satiate our hunger. I ordered a rice dish with red wine to guzzle it down, while my other girlfriend opted for Pad Thai and Thai iced tea.
The service was so-so, ok a little too slow for what we are used to but we had no where to go so none of us minded. The ambiance was very relaxing with little traffic on the street. The breeze offered some sanctuary from the Summer heat while the mellow music coming from the restaurant relaxed our mood. The food wasn’t five star quality but it was pretty good for the price. Among three girls, we spend no more than $35 including tip.
