The Corcoran Gallery of Art’s latest exhibit, Richard Avedon’s Portraits of Power, focuses on images from the photographer’s socially and politically charged work, rather than from the dynamic fashion shoots that initially made him famous. As a result, the show seems particularly tailored to Washington, DC, during a presidential election when political fanfare becomes especially unavoidable – even in our fine art museums.

On October 25, the Corcoran’s 1869 Society throws its annual Fall Fete, themed “Power Players” this year in celebration of Avedon’s exhibit, and fashion rekindles itself with the photographer for the evening. Whether you plan to look sexy in a Herve Leger bandage dress, masculine in a Yves Saint Laurent tuxedo dress, or classic with an aristocratic air in a full length Valentino, the attire promises to be as variegated as each individual’s interpretation of power.
