ASOS Pleated Maxi / ASOS Hat / Zara Earrings / Sunglass LA sunnies

I fell in love with the Miami Design District when during my visit in April and spent a few days exploring art galleries, shopping for the summer and trying a few restaurants that had been on my radar for the trip. A lot of my friends go to Miami for the beach but the art scene is exquisite.  After all, Art Basel chose the city for it’s annual event outside of Switzerland and Hong Kong (click here for my review of the Miami Design District).

I shot several outfits while I was in the area, four to be exact.  The weather in Miami was perfect for a pleated maxi dress, this one is from ASOS.  I’ve been in search of a pleated maxi dress that will take me from Spring to Summer with minimal accessorizing and this one fit the bill.  I sized down for this dress and it was still a bit too long but fit just right.  The crop top overlay gives it more of a dressy feel.  This would be perfect for a summer wedding, brunch or a trip to the vineyards.

There’s something about pleats that just screams elegance.  Pleats were a staple of the 1950s, an era where cinched waists and flared skirts were the norm.  What I love about pleats is the forgiving nature of the design.  They create an ethereal look to the shape to make the wearer look as if she’s floating.  Pleated maxi dresses are ultra romantic.  I have several in my closet but needed to update the colors to something more summery.  There’s no need to over accessorize pleated looks either, which is a bonus in my book. The only caveat to wearing pleats is maintaining the look of those tiny knife pleats after washing.  I opt for softer fabrics, which tend to be low maintenance and are usually machine washable because no one has time for dry cleaning bills.
