Inspiration: The Nicholas K Fall/Winter 2013 collection was inspired by intrepid Arctic explorations in the late 19th to early 20th century. Sibling design team Nicholas Kunz and Christopher Kunz were inspired by the cold sceneries and warm wears of the adventurers with wools, cottons, and prints in textures and tones drawn from the Arctic world. Lead Makeup Artist Tina Turnbow for NYX Cosmetics pulled inspiration from the Arctic explorer and the tough Nicholas K signature in an olive green, gray, brown, and black color palette.

Look:

To create the look, Turnbow started with NYX HD Studio Photogenic Foundation ($15, nyxcosmetics.com) to prime the models’ faces. She then focused on the eyes as the focal point of the face and created the look almost entirely with pencils. She began by drawing a distinct line extended to the brow bone using the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean. She then applied the NYX Nude Matte Shadow in Confession (a deep green-gray) and Stripped (black)  on the eyelid and smudged the shadow up to the brow bone. Next, Turnbow framed the top of the eye using the NYX Eyebrow Pencil in Brown on the brows, and blended the liner for a dramatic smokey eye look that filled the entire eyelid. She then finished the eyes with the Collection Noir Kohl Kajal Black Liner that was applied on the bottom water line.

For the lips, Turnbow kept the look simple to not take away from the dramatic eyes. She applied the Wonder Pencil for a nude and soft finish on the lips.

Turnbow finished the look by contouring the cheeks with subtle swipes of the Highlight and Contour Powder just under the cheekbone. She then applied the Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk on the top of the cheekbones for further contouring. Lastly, she applied the Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray to set the makeup and prevent any color fade. The finished look was a tough New York girl inspired by the Arctic traveler!
