Dear London Olympics, thank you so much for allowing me to relive my teenage years and my obsession with the Nineties girl group the Spice Girls tonight at the closing ceremonies.  Not only did Posh Spice, Baby Spice, Ginger Spice, Scary Spice and Sporty Spice entertain millions with their high octane performance, they thrilled me with their fabulous costumes and probs.

Aside from supermodels Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, as well as everyone’s favorite royal, Kate Middleton, making cameos on my television screen, I tuned in to the Olympics closing ceremonies because of the Spice Girls and their bedazzled London taxi cabs.

Victoria Beckham who probably doesn’t need the publicity of the Olympics to amp her already popular image lead the group wearing a black mullet dress by her favorite designer, Giles Deacon.  Showing off her killer body, she rocked out with the rest of the girls on top of those bedazzled London cabs – can we please get those for fashion week?.

Posh Spice Victoria tweeted this photo of the girls with the text, “We did it!” Indeed they did as thousands of fans in the stadium rose to their feet and sang along. Viva Forever!

Mel B, aka Scary Spice, must have raided Jennifer Lopez’s concert closet because she sparkled in a glittery Zuhair Murad jumpsuit that looks eerily similar to a few of the costumes Lopez has worn on her recent tour and concert performances.  Of course we’re coveting Mel’s sparkly peep-toe Christian Louboutin heels.  And how about those Beyonce-inspired honey curls? Well played Mel! Well played!

Geri Halliwell Ginge’s sartorial choice for the performance was a literal ode to the host nation.  She wore a red mini dress with tiered ruffles at the hem and the Union Jack adorning the gold embellished dress designed by Susan Neville.  We’re really digging those gold glitter booties she paired with the dress.

Emma Bunton Baby Spice missed the mark with the pink mini dress.  She’s all grown up, this we know, but she really should have worked harder of getting into her alter ego with some pig tails.  The shoulders of her dress were pretty fly and she gets points for those glitter heels.

Mel C Sporty Spice channeled Abba in her white wide leg jumpsuit and white heels but the updated version was very posh.  Gone are the midriff bearing tops and clunky shoes.  She did stay true to her grungy aesthetic by showing off her tattoos.

So we bid adieu to London after 17 glorious days of men and women showing off their athletic prowess.  Unfortunately there will be no more grill showing Ryan Lochte in those ultra adorable floral Speedo; a Michael Phelps snatching up all those swimming medals; The Fab Five aka USA Women’s Gymnastics Team – we love you Gabby Douglas – charming their way into our hearts; and importantly, no Kate Middleton and Prince Harry spottings in the Olympic Village.  At least we sought solace in a happy send-off from George Michael, Annie Lennox, the Spice Girls, Jessie J, Muse, Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen.
